When we found out I was pregnant we had a long conversation about how we were going to live our lives with a baby. We both agreed that even though our Child would always come first, we needed to still make time for just the two of us. We would not be one of those couples that fall out of sink after baby, loosing touch with friends and the lives that they used to live.
We decided that we needed to make a strong effort to attend get togethers and still have nights out on the town. I'm not saying we go out every other night, and usually when we go out we end up looking at pictures in our phone of Adelie or we're laughing at the crazy amount of Adelie paraphernalia in my purse, but we do go out at least once a week even if it's just for dinner. Not only does it give us Grown Up time, but Adelie also gets to spend time with her extended family. We really wanted her to know each and every one in our family really well because we grew up extremely close to ours :) And honestly it's like pulling pulling teeth to get her back from them ;)
We definitely cannot hang like the cool kids anymore, and if we make it to midnight we're giving
each other high fives
but for a few hours we get to out with our friends and act like kids again, only to wake up early in the morning to go pick up ours. I'd like to think we've established the perfect balance. Perhaps this all will change when we add morekiddo kiddos into our bunch and perhaps we're only able to get away with going out without baby because we only have one baby. Whatever it is, we'll roll with it. Maybe thats where Adelie gets her laid back personality from.
New Years Eve was our last outing without baby in 2013.
Yes we made it past midnight, and YES I was up at 8am the next morning driving to pick her up ;)
Happy New Years!
