Camping with Babes

Camping with a baby semi terrified scared me. To be miles and miles from all the luxuries of baby soothing contraptions, heat, fluffy beds and Jurassic Park Hocus Pocus Harry Potter educational videos to keep Adelie comfy and happy, could we do this? Since we're a pretty flybytheseatofourpants family, I packed the hyundai and we met Brandon after work to begin the 2hr trek up North to Lake Michigan's coast.  Brandon and I shared a duffel bag and packed a cooler of grown up goodies, perfect for sipping fireside on the lake. Adelie owned the rest of the car. Blankets, stroller, diaper bag, bottle bag...the girl was set to last all week if we needed to.  Brandon had his heart set on sleeping in our tent, however after experiencing the first dip in temperature on Friday night, mama bear made the executive decision that we would be sleeping in the Camper instead. Strictly for Babes sake.
We probably could have roughed it in the tent, but I think we'll wait until she's a toddler to try it. The guys went salmon fishing early in the morning and late into the evening, so it's safe to say it's going to take Brandon a whole week to catch back up on sleep.  Ads and I had the best time with Mrs. Houtz sampling at the local farmers market and attending a craft show (right up our alley!:)
Saturday afternoon Ads laughed for the first time.  Not a baby coo or giggle. She was actually laughing when we were tickling her! I would have had the cutest video but instagram crashed mid post and deleted it :(  Although we came home fishless, we DID come home with
Maple Bacon Fudge
&
Dill Jalapeno Ranch Popcorn
Yes, they were as tasty as they sound.

Since this was our first attempt at camping, there were a few things I didn't pack which would have been beneficial. 1. Pack and play. So Adelie could lay and kick around outside instead of in the camper. 2. Baby Carrier. This would have been useful to carry her around. There was TOO much to look at, the stroller view did not suffice. 3. Snuggie 4. Cam corder, for when your baby laughs and your phone malfunctions.

One for the baby books
On the way home, Brandon dropped me off at my car so I could go pick up the boys at the inlaws.  We were almost home when I got a phone call from B asking when I would be home.  Knowing there was a reason behind the call, I asked "why?"  Brandon had experienced his first blowout and had to give Ads a bath.....I got home to a freshly bathed naked baby in her crib.

No trip to the Lake would be complete without a mini Photo Shoot ;)

  1. We wanted to take Sadie camping in Colorado soooo badly late summer/early fall (like now!) but it just didn't happen this year. We usually rent a cabin the first night and then find a good spot to camp and spent most of our nights in a tent when we do it! Looks like you had a blast.....farmers markets rank right up there with Hobby Lobby and Target on my heavenly list....bahahaha!
P.S. Nice gold bow headband ;-)
